Things change, friends change, relationships change and I’m beginning to wonder will I truly understand when they say friendship does have its ‘expiry date’. This said friend will always still be around for you to bump into while you’re shopping, SMS during their birthdays, or maybe even to meet up for a drink or two occasionally, it’s just that the level of friendship changes. I don’t hold on to the ‘Friends Forever’ tag but I truly doubt that I can feel indifferent towards it when the inevitable happens.
“Oh (inserts name)? ah..just another friend who has reached his/her expiry date. No biggie.” I shrug, stare back to the tv, continue with my nails AND with rollers on my head.
Has happened to me a dozen of times already, but sometimes I still find myself thinking about the friendship that I once used to have. The number of friends that has been with me through different phases of my life but who now is just a memory I reminisce about, smiling about the silly things we’ve done once in a while.
And while I was walking from the new wing of OU to the old wing yesterday, I find myself picking on different memories shared with different people as I pass shops, makan places, songs.. I’ve blogged about this before and it’s the same feeling that was evoked as I pass that all too familiar places, which on normal days, wouldn’t get me sentimental all over.
It’s the emptiness that I’ve been feeling which I know deep inside, can only be filled by my Lord and Saviour, somebody that I’ve neglected and have relegated to the backseat. I find it difficult to catch up with life itself the last few weeks, much less to spend quality time; drawing strength from Him when I needed it. So yes, I am tired, consumed by the ‘busyness’ of life and with the many activities. I think I’m getting sucked in more and more as the year is coming to an end.
That is why I tell myself that I must and I will finish this year strong.
